Hear them scream! NOW On Tour In South America and looking for more gigs!
Meet Bruno & Michel are smiling a.k.a Oliver Bulas with Skipperrr a.k.a.
Charlotte Arnhold! This charming duo is named after the uneven brothers in
intellectual guru Michel Houellebecq’s “Atomized” novel -- and Barbie’s
little sister: prepare for mutant disco pop by this slick gentleman and a
breathtaking showgirl with their brand new album “C’ Mon!” (published by
Hamburg-based Sozialistischer Plattenbau label). What you’ll get is some
glaring hysteria with musical citation, trendy vocal hook lines, synthesiser
chords and two voices that won’t stop SCREAMING; a mixture of
deconstruction, radio play, experimental mash-up and a lot of madness… Now
on South American tour with sounds shredding Eiko Weishaupt dilating the line up.
Bruno & Michel are smiling with Skipperrr’s pomo melange jumps between
sampling and collage, digital and guitar hardcore that kills any rhythm as
soon as you discovered one. Using archetypes like Devo and Schoenberg,
Nintendo and Queen, the non-duo art duo creates a noisy rising Cosi fan
Tutte just to destroy it all in the next moment. Although both of them
reaped the benefits of a bourgeois education of classical music with
obligatory piano lessons, they enjoy to scream until bohemian glass breaks
into pieces.
Collage techniques for lyrics and sound are the basics of this lasting
six-year long collaboration: be it fragments in “Bombardment of Lip glosses”
or complex structures in the freshly composed “Such Is Life In The Tropics”
that combines South American rhythms with screaming vocals. For the ballade
“The Red-Haired Man”, they cite a Dadaist-style text by Russian dissident
poet Daniil Charms. The claim of the existence of a red-haired man is being
withdrawn limb by limb and organ by organ until nothing remains. As a result
“it's better that we don't say any more about him.” These aesthetics of
fragmentation can be seen as a comment about today’s social conditions – and
this will still scare your neighbour next door.
Previously Bruno & Michel are smiling with Skipperrr have been released on
several compilations such as Nanoloop 1.0 in 2001. And in 2003, the piece
“Everyday body market” was presented in an exhibition of the Musée d’Art
Moderne in Paris. Two years ago, London-based label Adaadat released their
first single, “The Beach Of Ruined Spirits”. The new record “C’ Mon!”
presents an overview of works from the years 2003 ‘till 2007 on the A-side.
On the B-side famous electronic artists like DJ Scotch Egg, Germlin and Mense
Reents contributed remixes of these tracks.
Don’t miss their catchy performance! Book this threesome now while in Brasil to
Argentina...
